American Institute of Architects (Chicago Chapter)
The American Institute of Architects Chicago (AIA Chicago) is the largest professional association of licensed architects, architectural interns, and allied professionals in Illinois. It is the second largest AIA chapter in the country. Of the 70,000 AIA members across the country, over 2000 are in the Chicago chapter.
American Institute of Steel Construction

Chicagoland Construction Safety Council
The Construction Safety Council was founded in 1989 as a non-for-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of safety and health interests in the field of construction throughout the world. It was chartered by a board of directors composed mostly of large construction company owners and operators whose vision and leadership made the organization possible. Since it's humble beginnings in 1989, the organization has quickly grown to become a world class professional construction consortium with associations that span the globe. With an emphasis on quality and customer service, all of the construction safety and health resources and loss reduction tools developed by the Construction Safety Council have been designed to maximize positive impact on your safety program.
Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute
CRSI has steadfastly worked toward the goal of increasing the use of reinforced concrete in the construction industry and member-fabricated reinforcing steel in site-cast concrete construction. To meet this objective, CRSI supports research and engineering support for the safe and proper use of materials in reinforced concrete construction.
Construction Specifications Institute
CSI is a national association dedicated to creating standards and formats to improve construction documents and project delivery. The organization is unique in the industry in that its members are a cross section of specifiers, architects, engineers, contractors and building materials suppliers. The organization has 146 chapters and more than 15,000 members. Monthly Chapter meetings allow members the opportunity to communicate openly with their counterparts and exchange information for successful project management.

Design Build Institute of America
The Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) is a membership organization founded in 1993 to advocate and advance single source project delivery within the design and construction community. The design-build method of project delivery embraces architecture/ engineering and construction services under a single contract, thereby re-integrating the roles of designer and constructor. DBIA members include practitioners from all project phases, plus public- and private-sector project owners.

Although other engineering organizations existed, their interests were not always compatible with the problems of the practicing Structural Engineer. The efforts of the other umbrella engineering organizations were often diluted by the attention to the other disciplines.
